The first Costco store opened in 1976 under the name Price Club, and the company has since grown to 838 warehouses serving 119 million members worldwide. Their impact has been impressive - according to Progressive Grocer, Costco's 578 U.S. stores sell more food and groceries than 2,726 Krogers.
